Judo for girls in post-war School Curriculum
I am a lecturer in Oriental Studies in Brazil, and I'm conducting research on the history of Judo, together with scholars from the Sports Studies field. We have been looking for information on Judo as part of the national school curriculum *after WWII*, including today. In this period Judo has started to lean towards a westernized sport model, and from the late 60's onwards women have been included in competitions. Our specific questions: how has Judo been available in PE for girls, compared to boys, since the 50s? Has it ever been popular as a sport for girls, or is there still some resistance (the idea of girls suitable for non-competitive Judo only)? How is the degree of female participation in martial arts in the school curriculum today? Judo scholars, also in Japan, have been extremely reticent about this issue, usually discarting it as non-important. I am now looking for help from scholars in Gender Studies instead. Setting up a Sister School
Hello I sponsor/teach a Japanese Club in a High School in Maryland. I would really like to set a cooperative program with a sister school in Japan. Hi everybody, I'm putting together a modest collection of Japan-related links, and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions. The site relies on RSS technology, and the links on my site are always updating in real time with the original sources. I've just started two months ago, and there are only about 20 categories right now. A modest start...
