Setting up a Sister School

Hello I sponsor/teach a Japanese Club in a High School in Maryland.  I would really like to set a cooperative program with a sister school in Japan.  Something that perhaps we could teleconfrence to or set up a "penpal" letter system with.  Does anyone know of any resources that could help me set this up or have any contacts that I can use?  Thanks for your help.  Feel free to email me directly at jsspiff@gmail.com Thanks!! Building an online Japan resource library. Any suggested resources?

Hi everybody, I'm putting together a modest collection of Japan-related links, and I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions. The site relies on RSS technology, and the links on my site are always updating in real time with the original sources. I've just started two months ago, and there are only about 20 categories right now. A modest start... If anyone here is an expert in a particular field (i.e. Japanese Politics, History, Art, Film) and wouldn't mind taking two minutes to send me their favorite 2 or 3 links, I'd certainly appreciate it. You can email me at rick.2jpn[at]gmail.com or submit your suggestions via this web form: http://www.2jpn.com/suggest/ It certainly looks like there's a good bank of knowledge on this site that I can link to, and I look forward to digging deeper to see what I can find. Thanks, Rick Martin

Is there a rankings list or recognition system indicating the best primary and secondary native Japanese teachers in Japan?

I am working on a public education documentary film, and we are exploring international comparative models with the Japanese model and the concept of the Japanese "Sensei" as a central focus. We are looking for stories about exemplary native Japanese teachers within the primary and secondary school systems. I am wondering if there is a rankings list, or "teacher of the year" equivalent that could help us locate some native Japanese teachers recognized as leaders in their profession. Also, if anyone in their first hand teaching experience have come across an exceptional Japanese instructor or someone who could help shed light and illustrate the concept of "Sensei" we are very interested in hearing your stories. We have found many prominent Japanese scholars and university professors teaching in Japan as well as in the U.S., however we are hoping to find unique personal stories about stellar individuals at a more local level. Any help, insight, ideas or suggestions for our search would be much appreciated! I can be reached by email at costello.shannon@gmail.com. THANK YOU!

Does anyone know of individuals who can demonstrate the traditional tea ceremony

I am the Social Studies teacher ( middle school grades 5-8) for a small independent school in southern vermont and we are doing a 12 week unit on Japan. I am hoping to find someone within a reasonable distance who can demonstrate the traditional tea ceremony and also speak to other aspects of Japanese culture both traditional and contemporary.

What are some ways teachers have used anime and manga (Japanese cartoons) to teach about Japan?

Anime and manga are extremely popular amongst American children.  I am interested in learning how teachers have used anime and manga as a "hook" to teach more deeply about Japan.
