This photograph, taken less than 200 feet from the Pacfic Ocean in Kesennuma, Miyagi on July, 2011, illustrates both the destruction and reconstruction after the tsunami and fires of March 11, 2011. The area had been leveled by a combination of the tsunami and then a fire that burned for a number of days afterwards. The picture is of a flower shop advertising its grand reopening. As can be seen, the buildings around it remain destroyed, but this business had been rebuilt and was open for business, showing signs of hope and rebirth in the area.
