This photograph, taken on March 11, 2011, shows the inside of a normally very neatly kept apartment in Saitama Prefecture, on the outskirts of Tokyo. Students can use a map to calculate the distance from the epicenter of the earthquake to Saitama, as well as look up the magnitude of the earthquake in Saitama. The photograph can be uses to discuss the effects of the earthquake in the Tokyo Metropolitan area, as well as to consider the impact on daily life even in areas considered outside the main area of devastaion.
