Temporary Housing Miyagi Prefecture

This video, taken in July 2011, a few months after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami on March 11, 2011, shows temporary housing in Kesennuma and Nattori on the coast of Miyagi Prefecture.  Most people who lost housing went through two stages, living in evacuation centers, such as the school gym discussed at the end of the video, and then temporary housing, depicted in most of the video.  In summer 2011, there were still people living in evacuation centers.  They have now been able to move out.

One major issue to consider is the affect of living in housing of this size for families who may have previously lived as multigenerational families.  Families that had consisted of three or more generations living under one roof before often had to be split up to fit into the much smaller temporary housing.  As of March 2012, there were still many people living in temproary housing.
