The battleship USS Arizona sinks into Pearl Harbor after being bombed by Japanese planes on December 7, 1941.  Over 1,100 US sailors lost their lives on board the Arizona.  Through the building of the memorial to the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor, it has become an important postwar symbol for the memory of Pearl Harbor.
