Anpanman Train Car

Anpanman Train Car

Anpanman (Bean Paste Bread Man) is a popular children's cartoon character in Japan, created by illustrator Takashi Yanase. A native of Kochi Prefecture on Shikoku, Japan Railway has created a train painted with characters from the Anpanman series to promote tourism in Kochi. The character itself, wildly popular amongst young children in Japan, has been deemed too violent to import on a broad scale to the United States. Many of the characters are food, and, as will happen to food, sometimes they will get partially eaten -- which seems to have kept the cartoon from coming to the USA. However, Japanese children and parents (and many non-Japanese who have seen the cartoon) enjoy the cute characters, lively music, and simple moral lessons taught in most episodes of the cartoon.
