Contemporary Japan often juxtaposes tradition with ultracontemporary culture, as well as often having urban landscapes and fields in close proximity.  This photograph, taken in October, 2007 from Ueno Park in downtown Tokyo, shows a skyscraper next to a pagoda.  The pond in the foreground is part of Ueno Park.  This photo can be used in class effectively along with the iconic photograph of the Shinkansen (bullet train) in front of a pagoda taken in 1964.
